What is Parkour/Freerun?
Parkour is the art of moving from one point to another as smoothly, efficiently and quickly as possible, using the abilities of the human body. It will help one overcome obstacles in the surrounding environment such as rails, walls and other objects. The physical aspect of parkour is about getting over all the obstacles in your path as you would in an emergency. You want to move in such a way, with any movement, that helps you gain the most ground on someone or something, whether escaping from it or chasing toward it.
Efficiency also involves avoiding injuries, both short and long term, part of why parkour's unofficial motto is être et durer (to be and to last).
Parkour has been described as a means of reclaiming what it means to be a human being. It teaches us to move using the natural methods that we should have learned from infancy. It teaches us to touch the world and interact with it, instead of being sheltered by it.
Who are Urban Freeflow?
UF were the first Freerun/Parkour organisation worldwide to establish regular teaching classes and successfully deliver structured training sessions. This was a first for the discipline worldwide.
The entire collective of Urban Freeflow coaches are experts in all areas of teaching Freerun/Parkour and apply their teaching methods to suit every situation and individual need. UF work very closely with a number of organisations such as the armed forces, the police force, the scouts, numerous youth based organisations, corporate clients and high event agencies.
Not only recognised as members of the highest profile team in the world, they are also unique in their sense of character, where classes are delivered in an engaging way where the emphasis is very much about fun.
What can I expect from the class?
Freerun and Parkour is best suited to its natural urban environment...there really is no substitute for taking it to the streets! This 90minute outdoor class will be tailored to suit the needs of all attending and will be tweaked depending on the requirements of those in attendance. The philosophy is to start slow and stay low. This means that fundamental moves are always key to building long lasting foundations which in turn, provide the ‘armour’ of a strong mind and body. Warm-up exercises will get you moving in animal-like postures at ground level and then progress onto balancing and jumping exercises. Over time you can expect to learn safe landing, balance, how to vault obstacles, hang, jump, and climb.
