In this country, Western Herbal Medicine (Phytotherapy), Chinese Herbal Medicine and Ayurvedic Medicine all administer plants to treat disease. All use their own specific framework of understanding health and disease to arrive at an accurate diagnosis and prescription. Chinese Herbal Medicine bases its treatment on TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), Western herbal Medicine on Western Medicine, and Ayurvedic Medicine on traditional Indian thought and philosophy.

Herbs encourage the body’s natural tendency to strive for health, aiding elimination, increasing resistance and restoring balance and vitality. Depending on which framework you adopt, it can work either by harmonising your Yin and Yang, balancing your 3 Doshas or by affecting cellular biochemistry.

What happens in a consultation?

A Western herbal Medicine consultation involves taking a full case history including life style advise. A Chinese Herbal Medicine consultation will be somewhat different, including tongue and pulse diagnosis. An Ayurvedic consultation will assess your constitution and balance your Doshas. The practitioner will then prescribe herbal medicines.
