Introduction

Homeopathy is based on the principle: Treat Like with Like.

Examples of the homeopathic principle in orthodox medicine are numerous and include immunisation and allergy desensitisation.

Homeopathy is NOT the giving of small doses. It is the administration of a regulating signal to the body, to trigger a healing response. The nearest analogy may that of a DVD or CD. While all such discs look much the same, they differ in the information stored. This information, when read by an appropriate decoder, results in a specific pattern of sound etc becoming revealed. It is believed that the information is stored in clusters of water molecules. This homeopathic signal can re corrupted by heat or ionising radiation, as can be expected.

It is safe and economical. Side effects are rare and usually indicate only a need to tune the treatment more specifically to the individual. Allergy to Homeopathy does not occur.

Hereditary weaknesses eg. a family history of Tuberculosis are carefully sought by homeopaths as these often reveal hereditary immune and enzyme weaknesses.

What is it good for?

Immune and allergic diseases, supporting orthodox prescribing

Sports injuries to assist rehabilitation both in the acute and in the recovery phases of healing.

Maintenance of health and reducing the risk of some familial conditions.

Minor anxiety, coughs and colds, teething, acute diarrhoea all respond well to homeopathy.

What happens in a consultation?

A full medical history is taken, supported by an appropriate physical examination. Objective physical signs such as hair distribution and body shape, dentition and bodily symmetry are all important information to the homeopath.

Family and personal history are noted and food preferences and aversions, along with general features such as best and worse times of day.

Various constitutional types have characteristic appearances, just as members of a particular family may have a strong physical resemblance. Thus, children with a Tb familial weakness often have long sexy eyelashes, narrow chests and a V of downy hair on the upper back. They often get recurring respiratory infections.

Those with mucous membrane problems eg sinusitis are usually stockier with a “McDonalds M” eyebrow and curly hair on the back below the belt line.

Emotional factors are also noted. Fears and aversions, and other individualising personality features are just as important as the physical data.

Preparation and Requirements

If possible, knowledge of family medical history is useful in addition to personal background such as dates and reactions to vaccinations.
