Alleviates discomfort or pain in any area of the body by applying pressure to specific points, primarily to the soles of the feet, which are connected to (or ‘reflect’) particular areas of the body.
Reflexology has been practiced for thousands of years and has its origins in China and Egypt. It has since extended further to parts of the Far East and India, but only recently has it reached wider societies.
Many people now use reflexology as part of their own personal healthcare, even if not suffering from any particular disease. There are approximately 5,000 practitioners registered with the Association of Reflexologies, being trained at 80 accredited schools.
What is it good for?
Preparation pre-conception, pregnancy and post-natal care, insomnia, digestive problems (such as irritable bowel syndrome, constipation and cramps), pain (headache, back pain), and hormonal imbalances such as pre menstrual syndrome, menopause and fibroids. It can also help boost the immune system and eliminate toxins.
What happens in a consultation?
The initial consultation will include an appraisal of your medical history and conditions. Reflexology helps the body and the mind to attain a state of balance, equilibrium and the freedom from tension. The technique of stimulating the pressure points on the feet (and/ or hand) can be altered to ensure the client’s maximum comfort and health.
Preparation and Requirements
As clients are treated holistically (as a whole person) diet and life style will also be looked at. For about 45 minutes the client will have an uninterrupted treatment, and then the practitioner and client will talk about possible problem areas, and lifestyle alterations.
Before the treatment it is best advised to avoid having a big meal or empty stomach as well as alcohol before or after the treatment.
